Basic Rules

Greetings all!

I know, I know. Nobody likes rules. I agree, they can be a pain, but I trust that you know they are here to make your role play experience all the more enjoyable. They are needed to keep things running smoothly around here, so pay attention!

This is where you start... take steps to follow the below and you'll do fine! ^.^

-----

Before You Join

I :: Reading
Make sure you acquaint yourself with all of the boards located in the Information Station. I know, it's a lot to digest all at once... I don't expect you to have it memorized. Just know what you're getting yourself in to before you sign up. Rules. Standards. Policies. We want you to be here; disregarding anything and ending up unhappy doesn't benefit anyone.

II :: Registering/Account
-I can't stress this enough..! Please make sure you review all of the rules BEFORE you sign up to be a member of this site. There are some important things there, and I want you all to be well informed.
-Here at CR I allow only one account per person; which translates to every character you role play will all be found under one account. Multiple accounts are difficult to keep up with and make the boards, character listings, and keeping in touch much harder for the staff and your fellow members. I'm taking you all at your word on this... please don't make me start keeping track.
-When you register with this site, please make your user name the name of the MAIN CHARACTER you plan to role play as while here. Your main character will be the first character you post; this method is to make communication between members easier. After sign up, changing the name shown is fine; as long as I can send you pms without much thought, I'm good.
-You are free to use any avatar or signature you feel like using as long as the image is appropriate. No larger then 100x100 pixels for your avatar, and keep the signature size reasonable. No 600x800 size images, please.

III :: Activity
-As I'm sure you all know, a rp site is nothing if the members who contribute to it do not post regularly. By signing up for this site, you are agreeing that you will be active on this site; if an inevitable change ever takes place, please take it up with one of the staff.
-I'll state no exact activity I expect per week or whatever... however, if you go a month without posting anything, your characters/account will become inactive. Efforts will be made to contact you through email and, if no reply comes, your account will be deleted no questions asked.
-To prove that you are active, you must post your first character up for approval by a staff member within a week of your initial joining of the site. If you do not you will receive an email from myself... and if no response is received, your account will be deleted.

IV :: Money System and Games
-Chaotic Rapture is a free monetary role play... meaning that neither myself nor any of my staff will regulate how much money your character has at any one point. There will be no records kept, and you can do nothing to earn or loose money unless it is part of an individual role play plot. From what we have seen, this procedure is just too messy and complicated to force upon others. No, I will not be convinced to the contrary, so don't try.
-There will be a number of games or member interactions activated on this site... you are not required to participate. But I do encourage you to; the people who most enjoy their time in role play sites are the ones that make friends outside of the rp as well as within. Activities such as these are designed to help with that process... don't be afraid to give it a try!

General

I :: Getting Along with Others
Please remember that this is an open site with a friendly attitude toward all. Any crap between members out of a role playing situation (insulting, name-calling, etc.) is not tolerated, and those who are caught doing this will be banned from the site, no questions asked. So remember, play nice. Everybody is allowed in every topic. Please do not PM me asking me to block anyone out. I won't do it, plus you'll get an angry reply from yours truly.

Make an effort to reach out to other members, especially new members. It can be intimidating to come to a site where people already have established links and friendships... every single one of us here can remember how it feels. So be open, be friendly. Chat with new members, and help them as best as you can if none of the staff is available. Offer to role play with them. Because I'm sure, if you more advanced members thing back, there was someone who was kind enough to offer all of those things to you.

II :: Language
-Now, I'm sure you already know this, but this is a mature role playing site. We're trying for as real life as possible and, like it or not, graphic language is a part of life and is allowed on this site. I'm assuming all who sign up are semi-mature young adults and, since you're all older then 13, you've probably heard all the colorful language you could possibly pick up in elementary school.
-The only bad language I will not allow is any hateful terms associated with race. I don't care if you're white, back, yellow, orange, golden, purple, or from the planet Quepacka. We are not races, we are a race of people. We are individuals and we are all beautiful. Don't push this, please.
-Use discretion. And do not direct any sort of bad language at another member out side of role play. That can be hurtful and insulting; so be careful unless this is someone you know very well. Be considerate of others. Try to be tasteful. No 200 posts of explicative, alright?

III :: Grammar

Grammar = Legible.
Legible = Good Role Playing
Good Role Playing = Happy Site
Happy Site = Happy Sarume

And isn't that what we all really want? ^.^

-Jokes aside, I really want you all to practice good grammar when posting to my site. I'm not expecting you all to be perfect English major robots... goodness, that would be frightening. But know the basics: comas, periods, capitalization. Write like this is something you'd publish; write like you're proud of what it is your posting.
-Now, I don't know about you, but I'm a horrible speller. If I were to just write without looking it over, you probably wouldn't be able to read anything on this page. Thankfully for people like me, there is spell check. It's nice and convenient; two boxes over from the 'Post Message' button. Please, use it.
-And please, no chat speak (brb, g2g, w/e, 4get, etc.) within threads. Equally capable of causing me pain is gibberish text words ($@fe, n!c3, etc.). Save it for PMs or the chat board.
-When posting, utilize the third person point of view... he, she, they, them, etc. Please try to keep all posts in the past tense to keep the site unified.
-Please write all actions in regular text. Do not use *asterisks*, ~squiggles~, -dashes-, or any other of the sort to signify actions in a role play. This will be considered as chat speak. When a character speaks, please put it in "quotation marks" and nothing else. For the thoughts of the character, please put them in either italics or 'single quotations', though I would prefer the first.
-As for font color, size, style, ect... I have no set preferences, so you are free to utilize them as you see fit. However, this is allowed because I have had no complaints about it thus far; please use your common sense. If you have to squint and turn your head exactly 67 degrees to the right to read your post, it's preferred that you simplify things. Handle it on your own to keep me from making up yet another ridiculously picky rule. ^.^

IV :: Complaints
We're all human, so there are going to be disagreements and dispute. Hopefully not much, since I want this to be a happy site. But if you think you've been wronged, or you think that there's something that needs to be fixed, don't be afraid to let me know. I'm more then happy to hear what you have to say as long as you approach me as a calm, reasonable adult. Tantrums will get you nowhere, remember...

The first step to any dispute is, of course, to attempt to settle it amungst yourselves. If you can do this, I encourage it; it always seems neater to me. However, if negotiations with the member in question get you nowhere, let me know. I promise I'll do my best to smooth things out, and I will not tell them you told me. This ranges in everything from OOC insults to godmoding to being forced into something (kidnapping, death, etc.) in an rp that you have either not discussed with the other player or have discussed and agreed to avoid only to be ignored. I want people here to feel they are treated fairly and with regard to everyone's wants an needs.

Let's all strive to meet that requirement, alright?

Making A Character

I :: Characters to Account
Though you are required to regrister and role play as one majoy character, you are not limited to that one character. The minimum number of characters you may have is one, and if you don't care to create any others then that's fine. But if you would like more then one character I have good news: you may have a maximum of 5 characters to an account.

II :: Creativity
--A 'plain as day' rule, right? Well, just in case... every character you post here should be crafted entirely from your imagination. No stealing another member's character, and no adapting a character from an anime, video game, or movie into our RP world. Meaning... if you create a silver haired halfbreed with golden eyes and dog ears who dresses in red, with a description of "a hot headed young halfbreed that enjoys searching for jewels and using his sword that only activates when he protects a human. He hates his cold and distant elder brother, and has a demon side that is unleahed from time to time". Yeah... that's Inuyasha. No Inuyasha use, ok? Oh... and I shall not be deceived if you name him 'Bob' instead of 'Inuyasha'. Even though Bob is the most awesome name ever, I shall not accept it. I'm dumb, but not THAT dumb. XD
--However, you ARE allowed to use whatever picture you'd like to represent your character, even a cannon picture. I believe that images can be used to inspire thought processes; if you see an image and instantly attach a story to it, be my guest to use it.

III :: Plot Filling
The central storyline to this site is really interesting, and we need people like YOU to get it going! When considering making a character, be sure you check the Needed Characters thread to see if any positions are open that you would like to fill.

IV :: Posting Characters
--Please remember to post your character description within the character board only. A post anywhere else will be deleated, your information sent to you, and a patient message to try again.
--When posting a new character, please make the title of the thread the character's full name so they are easier to find and identify.
--Fill out the Character Form to the best of your ability if you want your character to be accepted.

V :: Character Ranking
A character's rank will be used to establish their place in their organization's heairachy, along with match up how they would fair against members of other organizations. You are free to choose the ranking for each of your characters; but please don't make them all top notch! Sometimes it's best to work your way up from the bottom. Ranks vary depending on what your character is associated with; see specific boards for details.

VI :: Character Race
--Currently, there are only 4 races allowed in the world of Chaotic Rapture: demons, halfbreeds, humans, and androids. Please keep your character within one of these races.
--If you have another race you would like to submit, first take it up with an admin. We'll discuss it with you and come to a decision; do NOT simply post a thread in the races board. It will be deleated.

VII :: Organization Affiliation
Like the above, you are free to put your character in whatever organization you choose. Though I do request that you spread your characters out... and look for organizations with a lack of members! Those are the places that need the most support! ^.^ The current groupies you can join are the Macabre, the NeoMafia, the Order, or the Civilians.

VIII :: Character Types to Avoid
--Mary/Gary Sue/Stus: Though you probably already know this, characters that fall under this definition is not a character that just stands out (those are encouraged! ^.^), but a character that is far too popular, sucessful, and beautiful for their own good. An example for the female version of this I shall supply:

She was the most beautiful girl in the entire room, and she smiled and spoke sweetly to everyone causing every man to fall in love with her. Every woman in the room was jealous and watches as their husbands flocked to the newcomer, unable to compete with her infinite beauty

Obnoxious, isn't it..? Just don't do it. Please..?

--GodMod: Another popular no-no. This term is applied when your character is invincible in all ways, controlling other characters. The character is all powerful and undefeatable. An example for this I shall also provide:

ex: JimBob jumped into the air, spinning to knock Sally across the alley and stealing her weapon before knocking her unconscious, drawing a mustache on her face, and making her do the hula with his awe inspiring mind control powers.

The best summary of admin sentiments on this I have ever seen were professed by Loki, known here as Quinn. It was posted on the first chapter of Chaotic Rapture and, with her permission, it is being posted here again in part:

Quote:
Power-playing and God-modding.

It means to make your character all-powerful. The strongest there is, and sometimes to control other characters. From now on I'm just going to merge the essence of Godmodding and Power-Playing just to call it power-playing because frankly, it's easier and I'm lazy.

Whenever there is a fight RPG like this one, chances are, it's gonna happen. But nobody's doing anything about it! And when people try to tell people to stop it turns into this big explosion -- much like an argument between a stepchild and a step parent:

"You're not the admin, you can't tell me what to do! "

"You're not my mother, you can't tell me what to do!"

Inform Loki when you start to see the resemblance.

Alright, Loki is going to start off with the subject of the Neomafia since she's fluent in the subject being the fact that she deals with it a lot being the fact that her character owns it! Let me lay something out for you all -- The Neomafia is a high power in the city. There is a reason for that. And yet characters always seem to toss them around like fucking rag dolls! Seriously people, give other characters a chance -- even if they're NPCs! And this doesn't just go for the Neomafia and NPCs. This goes for everything and everyone. This is what Loki regularly sees in fights on this site[for example]:

1) Macabre member enters alley.
2) Order member finds macabre member.
3) They fight.
4) Macabre member throws three knifes at Order member.
5) AND THEN A MIRACLE HAPPENS and the Order member dodges it completely.
6) Order member fires elemental blast at Macabre member.
7) AND THEN A MIRACLE HAPPENS and the Macabre member is completely unphased by blast.

-_-' Pretty pathetic when you look back on it, huh?

Now, this next subject is one Loki is very close to because she has been victim of it more than once. Here's the thing: Ioric is the leader of the Macabre, right? Strong, ruthless, controls the demons -- how do you think he got in that position? Certainly not be speeches. They're. Demons. He probably fought his way up there. The chances are, he is stronger than you. Quinntessece I made specially to be physically weak for the joy of all you power-players, but I also made her very smart. She controls thousands of legions of humans, tortures half breeds under the hospital and gets everybody to look away and manages to be a threat to both the Macabre and the Order and she's 18 years old. How do you think she gets people to listen to her? Chances are -- you're not smarter, you may have more common sense and have a better grasp on reality, but chances are you can't see her next strategical move. Geraldus I can't say much about because he hasn't played a lot, all I know is he's very deep and philosophical. Don't fight the tears. Crying in an act of manliness. XD This also goes for Sarume, who is the Halfbreed Queen. Let me repeat that for you -- QUEEN. Sure, she hasn't unlocked all her powers yet but she's pretty damn powerful. Chances are, you won't beat her.

To close this Loki will charge on you all -- stop Power-playing. She gets angry believe it or not and she is really angry right now. She is giving you permission to rant and insult her all you like on this board but she's expressed her views and she can't take them back. If this doesn't stop soon, she'll grace you all with a farewell and leave you in her absence.

Also, as a parting note -- if you power-play Loki will barge into the RP as an NPC and power-play back. She swears. She gives all her praises to Sarume but this REALLY frustrates her and at this point the threat of expulsion does not scare her. So, yes, she promises you she will barge in and power-play back, and although she may not be allowed to kill you without permission she can sure as hell try, and it's a lot easier to kill a character when you're a God.

And if the great Sarume actually praises her on this subject[which is so highly unlikely] Loki can also promise you that she can find permission.

In conclusion. Don't power-play or God-mode. It makes Loki angry. For this whole time she's been taking blows and everybody else has been dodging her own. She's sick and tired of it.

And yes, ALL my staff is like this if you tick them off. They'll eat you alive; please don't make them. ^.^

Now, the last thing I want to do is scare potential members off, so I'll say this: we are tough on this issue because it has been a problem in the past and bothers A LOT of people. Pay attention to the hiearchy, the races, the enviroment; everything. This is something we're serious about. It was what I got the most complaints about from my last site, and what seemed to be the most abused rule. We want you to have a GOOD role playing experience... think; how you would feel if someone used a GodMod character on you? Let's all work together to avoid this problem, ok? ^.^

IX :: Site Traits
Keep in mind the time period, technology, idealology, and level of violence when you are making your character. All of these things will contribute to their mentality and how they react to things; keep it as to the line as possible. Factor in the Organizations in as well, along with any pre-established relationships with characters in organizations othen then those

X :: Differentiation
The difference between your character and you... not hard to distinguish, right? Well, you'd be surprised... this covers 2 things:
--I've role played with lots of people who get emotionally wrapped up in their characters to a point that the things that are said and done to 'them' in the rp actually hurt the member behind the character. Remember, this is a story; nothing the characters say in the role play pertains to you. Don't be offended, hurt, saddened, whatever. Your character isn't you. Savvy..? ^_^
--Also prevalent is characters knowing something because the member behind the character knows it. Not realistic, doves... let the character find out through role play; that's what we're here for! And if they do already know, give them a legitimate reason for knowing!

Role Playing

I :: Creating a Thread
--No character may be involved in a role playing thread until they have been approved by a staff member of Chaotic Rapture. If you post for an unapproved character your post will be deleted, which causes bad feelings all around. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please be patient.
--When beginning a role playing thread, please use details. Describe your character, where they are, what's going on around them. Put thought into why your character is there, what sort of mood your character is in, and what sort of things are likely to happen when your character is confronted. Make it something someone will want to be a part of to leave plenty of openings for replies.
--If the thread is for someone in specific, please place the name of the characters involved in the title in brackets... ex: [Player 1, Player 2] If it is open for anyone to join in, just leave the title as it is; it will automatically be interpreted as an open thread.
--Once you involve a character in a thread, remember to reference it in your character's personal thread.
--If your thread goes for a month without a single reply, it will be deleted. It is of no offense to you, I swear; I'm just trying to keep my boards clean. Don't be discouraged if this happens to you; communicate with others and try again. If you feel I have deleted a thread in error, please PM me... I am human; there's every possibility you're right.

II :: Posting
--First of all, before entering any RP, ask. More likely then not you will be welcomed with open arms, but to ask is the polite thing to do.
--To know me is to know that I love posts that are packed with details... which generally leads to long, eloquent posts. And I know not everyone shares my enthusiasm. ^.^v So, when replying to anything within RP, I have a 6 sentence minimum. Use your imagination and creativity that will give those who follow you something worthwhile to add to. Now, I understand there are exceptions... Muses die and go on vacations and go on strike... they seem to be irritable things. But no one sentence posts... even something that feels horrid to you probably looks much more engaging to others.
--When engaged in a role play with more then just one other person, please practice turn system posting. This means that each person posts only in the order that they entered into the role play. For example, if Person 1 posts, then Person 2, then Person 3, please continue to follow this pattern to avoid leaving other characters out. If a character/member disappears from the site and is holding up your role play, PM myself or another member of the staff and we will discuss the options for continuation with you.

III :: Violence
--One of the central themes in Chaotic Rapture is violence. There are three main gangs engaged in a war... chances are the things described are going to be rather graphic violence wise. Which means yes, violence is allowed here in all of its ugly glory. Again, I am expecting everyone to be tactful; but this is a gritty role play that centers on violence. It's going to be there, and there are high chances it is going to be gory.
--Don't be surprised to see torture, kidnapping, gun battles, vicious hand to hand attacks, and more. That's just the sort of site this is.
--However, I am perfectly aware that not everyone wants to be involved in that, and ask for consideration from all members. If your role play becomes too graphic, please place a warning of sort sort (ex. WARNING: GORE) in the title.

IV :: Sex and Relationships
Relationships between characters are celebrated and encouraged on this site. It allows for some interesting plots, drama for those who love it, and fluff for those like me who squee over such things.
--When role playing relationships, please make an effort to keep things realistic. Talk with the member behind the other character to make the hook up more of a plot... and yes, there is always a plot. Make it interesting and unique. Every small date, every weekend retreat, every one night stand, and every love confession can be a part of something bigger and far more engaging.
--And now that it's been properly brought up: the issue of sex. Yes, you are all mature individuals. Yes, I want love to be realistic. No, I do not want my members mentally scarred when they accidentally stumble into a thread to read 'graphic descriptions' of a sexual encounter. Sex is allowed... but be tasteful and use your common sense. Utilize the black out method in this situation, which consists of describing all foreplay and cutting off the role play before the characters become intimate. The role play will then pick up with afterwords/the next morning.
--If the characters must have detailed sex, take it to the PMs. Even if something important happens... say something important was said, or some magical jewel activated as a result, or whatever... mention it as you continue the thread only if it is important to the overall plot you have going.
--Rape... on a general whole, avoid it. If there is something that absolutely positively requires it, you must PM me to ask for permission. I will review it and may grant you permission if it is defended well... and in that case, follow the same standards as for sex: lead up to it, black out before the it gets too graphic, and pick up afterwords.
--With any thread with even a hint of any serious sexual content, put some sort of warning in the title. If I find a smutty thread with no warning, it will be deleted without warning. A tag warning could be any of the following: XXX, 18+, etc. Oh, and NO PORNOGRAPHIC PICTURES ON MY SITE! Ever. That would be no people having sex... simple, no?
--On a last note, try not to get too wrapped up in the romance. I know, love is fun. But don't make it the topic of every single thread you create and enter on this site. Reach out to others, interact with other characters, be part of the plot! There's lots out there to get in to, don't risk missing it!

V :: Out of Character Talk
--Keep this as far away from your role playing as possible. If you're bored and need someone to talk to, your fellow members are here for you... but please, don't post it in active threads. Keep chatter to either the proffered board in the Member's Only section or in PMs.
--If you have a brief message to the people you share a thread with, please post it either before or after your actual post, and distinguish it somehow... put it in (parentheses), *asterisks*, -dashes-, OOC:, or some other way to make it obvious it is not a part of the storyline.
--Please respect the decisions made my myself and my staff. If you believe we are in the wrong, then by all means let us know. But let us know in a calm, logical way that doesn't make us take you less seriously. Act your age or older, argue logically... and you are likely to get a lot further with us. Also respect your fellow CR members when OOC. Everyone has a way to improve, everyone has great things about their characters and style... it all evens out in the end.

VI :: Characters in Multiple Boards
Since there is a character limit, I can completely understand the fact that one character can go into several threads at once. A single character is allowed in 3 places at once. Wherever the character begins first is what happens first in the time line, where posted second happens second, third happens third... a pattern, you see. ^.^

VII :: Deaths
--As above stated, this is a violent site... deaths are going to happen. In fact, the death of a character can lead to some seriously awesome plots. It is allowed on this site, and you are encouraged to integrate it into your personal plots when the opportunity arises.
--That stated, you may not have your character kill off the character of another person unless you have the permission of that person. The only characters you may kill off on a whim are generic/NPC bystanders or bad guys.
--You are allowed to kill off your own characters as and when you see fit. Just please, if you want to kill a character, role play it out. Don't just say they dropped dead and don't role play with the character any more.
--Finally, if a character of yours is killed, be sure you PM myself or one of the staff to let us know. Your character will then be locked and moved and the status changed.

VIII :: Continuing and Leaving Threads
--Threads should continue as long as the characters involved in the thread remain in that particular location. If the plot you are following deems the characters should leave that location for another, do not continue the thread. An exception would be if the characters are walking the streets near a location, of course. Otherwise, start a thread in a new location and pick up again there, remembering to add the thread title to your character's profile, of course.
--If you do the above, the last person to post to the first thread should post both a message saying where the thread has moved to for the curious and a proclamation that closes the thread. A link to the new thread would be appreciated. That should be the last post; please communicate when the new thread is ready and similar discussion through PMs.
--The last lines of a closed thread should look something like this:

Moved to ______/link
End/Thread Closed/Etc.

--Please PM me when you close a thread so I can lock it and move it to the archives for future reference and to prevent the board from getting too cluttered. If a thread is inactive for at least 2 months without excuse, it will be automatically locked and moved to the archives without warning.
